Caption: nancy By Guy Gilchrist. I've been waiting ever since Feb-ruary 14th...For my beau to make his appearance! He's one of those folk who is always broke...So MY Valentine's day's AFTER CLEAR-ANCE!
Hearts read: 75% OFF!
February 14 was also the day of the Roman fertility festival Lupercalia. Valentine’s martyrdom happened to fall on that day, so the early established Church linked the two.
As far as invented holidays go, I think of Mother-in-Law’s Day and Boss’s Day. I’ve always considered my mother-in-law as another mother (actually, the only one I have now unless you count aunts), so I honor her on Mother’s Day. Same thing with Boss’s Day – I take my wife out for brunch on Mother’s Day.

It’s the thought that counts, and Sluggo did come through.

What’s the big deal. These dates are arbitrary anyway.

Y’know, Sluggo may actually be on to something here.
Assuming one also buys something in time for the actual Valentines’ Day, that is.

If he had waited until Monday, it would have been 90% off.
