Snow makes the sound of soft silence. Even if its a blizzard – its a soft silence. .now about that earthworm….. If an earthworm coughs from both ends…. does its middle explode?
We had light sleet here in northwest Florida yesterday.A very pleasant quiet tinkling sound. (Yes sounds can be quiet and still be sounds.)Agnes would have approved.
Night…. Maybe it’s somewhat audible to creatures with more acute hearing, like cats.
If not, I imagine there might be something with at least a rudimentary nervous and/or auditory system that’s small enough, and close enough, to hear those tiny crystals tinkle softly…
I have no idea whether the size of the creature or its hearing organs is related to the volume of sounds…
I know that sea creatures are very disturbed by loud water-borne noises that humans can barely discern…but I’ve never thought about whether something we humans consider merely loud might be unbearable to a tiny frog, say…or possibly even a human fetus.

And I always imagine the sunrise sounds like that old Windows start-up .wav.

Dang coughing earthworms! They keep you up at night.

That’s how robins find earthworms; they listen for them to cough.
