I’ve always wondered what the Universe imploding would look like … Guess we’ll know in fourteen minutes, thirteen seconds. Meddick’s universe, at least…

A lesson for all of us: when you tell someone “Don’t do X”, in order to make sense of that, the person hearing it has to think of doing X and somehow add in the Don’t, which is usually too late. Telling a running child “Don’t fall!” often leads to skinned knees or worse. The way to avoid that problem is to tell the person or child what you want them to do. In the case of the running child it might be “Keep your balance!” In Monty’s case, nothing would help (otherwise there wouldn’t be a strip).

Monty at the bat… my bet is that he will find a way to strike out, even if he tries to hit an easy target such as a non-moving past self.

In the computer room of one of the places I worked, I noticed a red button upon which a clear plastic cover had been taped. When I asked the operator what it was, he told me this story:When he was being trained, the trainer told him “you see this button…” In pointing at it, he accidentally pressed it. The whole computer room went silent.

Y’know, I’ve always why people in this situation actually PRESS the button in question, rather than just pointing to it.
