Still going! Irv Gordon of Alaska has put 3 million miles on his Volvo P1800 since buying it in 1966! The Dana octopus squid of the Pacific blinds its prey with flashes of light from its arms. Fishermen in Laos use boats made from fuel tanks dropped by US Air Force jets during the Vietnam War!

Sometimes they just want to brag about the car still being driven with all those miles.
Maybe they think they should get a prize or something.

DOZENS of cars for ‘tens of thousands’??? What?! Other beaters that don’t look nearly as nice? Certainly not NEW cars…. and CERTAINLY not a new volvo!

It depends on your priorities in life. I’d rather keep a car that I really like for 40 years then buy 10 mediocre cars during the same time.

Well, the title of this IS “Believe it Or Not.” The choice is yours. I only know that if I had a car I really liked, there’d be no need to replace it if I was able to keep it running.

I still have the hammer that my great-great-grandfather bought new in 1846. The handle has been replaced 9 times and the head 3 times, however. ;)

I use my fathers razor. Just replace the blades. He wa born in 1886, but I don’t know how old the razor is. He had some old straight razors too.

I had a Volvo that I slammed into a wall going 45 and walked away with just a few sore spots and even though front end was smashed it still ran

Do that just 30 more times, Irv, and you’ll have driven it as far as the sun.

My ex-Brother-In-Law was sufficiently enamored of the Volvo sedan (no idea if it was the same model) that he conned his grandmother into buying him one as a Wedding Present.
Eventually he realized that the Volvo (“best car in the world”, etc.) was spending more time in the shop than on the road, and that he had to buy a Chevy in order to have something to drive between repairs.
OTOH, ‘bout 1973, a buddy of mine bought a new Chevy, and ended up owning a Mercedes/Volvo agency. He had to sell the Chevy, but couldn’t force himself to drive a Mercedes. Nice Volvo sedan….
I once considered a Rolls Royce. I had enough money to pull off a down payment, and figured that 25 years years might be a nice way to play. Then I thought about it. Driving the same car for 25 years….
(Just happened to think. I have two “luxury” cars now. The newest is a ’99…. Getting close to that 25 years….)
