The bank for which I was working issued all employees a BankAmericard in the late 60s. I never used mine, but discovered my late and un-lamented had run it well over the limit. Now I carry a debit card and that’s it.
Me too – Sears was my first. Now I use Discover – pay it off every month – and they pay me 1% or more on purchases. Had that up to $500 before I redeemed it. And there is no annual fee.
I’m pretty sure my first was for one of the many department stores where I shopped- I don’t remember.Happy to say, though, that (76 and counting) I still experience many things for the first time – looking forward to many this year ;-D
Sears or Penney. They both had booths in the Iowa Memorial Union – but didn’t get until after I graduated and got a job. Still tend not to use them if I have the checkbook, and always have enough in checking or savings to pay them off. I also tend to use the Sears Mastercard because I can pop over to Sears or K-Mart to pay it off instead of hoping the Postal Service gets it there in time.
Wonder how long until his first bankruptcy for not paying his credit card bills. What? You mean I actually have to pay for those things at some point? Nobody told me that!

First credit card?

Apparently, the very first credit card was Diner’s Club… and no, I was too young to have one.

Had one, then it expired. Didn’t bother renewing it.

They work around that by renewing it for you automatically now.And how did he get a credit card without a job?

Sears. Over the years I have had almost all of them at one time or another. Now I just have one and it is paid off and stays that way. Zero debt.

Visa…3% interest, no annual fee. When they tried to start charging an annual fee I canceled it and went to their competitor.

VISA – it’s the only card I’m using even now.

@Doctor Toon I experienced at first a few months ago. I got the senior discount at lunch! Saved a whole couple of bucks! Still makes me happy.

That is the only reason I carry one card. But I always save what I am going to spend before hand so it’s already paid for.

I used to travel a lot. Though I always paid cash, I couldn’t rent a car or get a hotel without a credit card.
I have to ask here, does he have a job?

Yes, you can use a bank debit card as a credit card. It’s great, you only use money you have.
