I had a plumber who left his Maglite flashlight at my apartment. I called him up and told him he’d forgotten it. He came and got it and charged me for the second “house call.” I should have just kept it.
Back in the days when an expensive Intel 486 DX666 processor cost over $1,000 I bought a cheaper SX333 at a computer fair. When I got it home and unwrapped it to put it on the mainboard, I realized they’d given me one of the expensive ones by mistake. The guy drove nearly 200 miles to switch with the one I paid for… and a couple hours after he left I noticed he’d left a whole box of processors worth several thousand dollars at my house!
I’ve always gotten annoyed at that four-hour window (in some cases it’s even more) that you often get whenever you schedule a service or repairs, but most of the time they do show up. That’s better than how it is in some countries (so I’ve heard) where a repairman might not come at all, and you have to keep calling them until they do.
