Not a duo, but a trio, at this point, with the forgotten third member of the team, Leon. Since Alphonse and Gaston were still being licensed for advertising as late as the 1940s, I think it’s a safe bet that the “Goofy Gophers” were inspired by them.

Wouldn’t see this sort of thing nowadays for many reasons.
