Ripley's Believe It or Not! Cashew nuts are poisonous until roasted - the shells contain a strong acid that blister the skin. It is estimated that the ancient Egyptians created at least 70 million human mummies. During World War I (1914-1918), some British farmers enlisted circus elephants to plough fields due to a lack of horses.

I wonder who said, “Hey let’s roast these and see if that makes them non-poisonous.”

70 million mummies? How was this calculated? Over what period did this happen? If 1% of Egyptians were mummified then Egypt must have had an extremely large population over the period being examined. This beggars belief and seems like the “or not” category.

The picture of the cashews is wrong. each cashew nut grows at the end of a “cashew” apple. which they make a drink out of.

Only problem with the cashews shown is they don’t grow like that, it looks like this…

I think he should’ve also included the fact that it’s the only seed that grows outside the fruit….

70 million? I thought only the rich and royalty got mummified.

If they mummified 70 million humans over 3,000 years, that comes to about 64 mummies A DAY. The average population of their civilization over that time was no more than 3 million people, a little more than the population of Brooklyn. If you subtract the huge numbers of peasants, who would not be mummified, you can see how ridiculous and uninformed this “estimate” is.
