Someone (gee, PARENTS maybe??) need to teach Michael that “hurtful” is not wit. “Respect” doesn’t even enter the picture on this one he’s so far from the mark. If Lynn laughed at this it’s really too bad.
If my kid said like that to my wife in front of me, I would have laughed my head off and so would she. Why would you punish a kid for something like that? It wasn’t disrespectful and was clever and humorous.
Is tub another word for fat? I didn’t take it that way. I thought he was referring to floating in amniotic fluid in a container (womb). I was surprised he knew that much about it, but didn’t take it as disrespectful.I don’t think Elly comes across as cool and distant. Does she seem sometimes to be bad-tempered? I can understand the many duties and frustrations of motherhood.John often makes remarks that Elly gets upset about. He “puts his foot in his mouth”, doesn’t think before he speaks, and may not realize how his remark may be interpreted by his wife. That isn’t disrespect, it’s just a different viewpoint.Generally, I think FBOW is a fairly realistic picture of family life, although in small bits played for the humor.Lighten up, everybody.
And yet, Jason Fox, despite being a year old and (presumably) much smarter, didn’t get the reference when Andy said that she carried him for nine months.

No, clueless would be a thought ballon with question marks. Empty means she doesn’t have a good comeback … yet.
And a brat of a kid who insults his mother like that deserves a fitting comeuppance.Aaberon over 10 years ago
If I’d have EVER said something like that, I’d’ve had my mouth slapped right then and there.

At 9 years old, I would have known nothing about being in a tub for 9 months.

NOT a nice thing to say, Michael.
However, This would be a good time to ask for a swimming pool! Way more fun than a bathtub anyway.

no jury in the world would convict you, especially if it’s made up of moms.
