Zonker: Ex-pro tannist, Duke's nephew, fan of rocker Jimmy Thudpucker. Jimmy: Singer-activist, wrote campaign song for Ginny. Ginny: Lawyer, former roommate of Joanie, once ran against Lacey. Clyde: Ex-homeboy, current cookie czar, married to Ginny. Widow D.: Farmer and car dealer, mother of Mike and Sal. Sal: Dr. Whoopee sales Rep, brother of Mike Doonesbury. Zeke: Caretaker of Duke's Colorado home until shot by employer. Alex: Daughter of J.J. and Mike, nannied by Zonker Harris. Joanie: Lawyer, mother of J.J. and Jeff, married to Rick by Scot. Roland: TV correspondent, tried to pick up Joanie in a laundromat. Ray: Wounded Gulf War vet; along with B.D., hooked by Mr. Butts. Mr. Butts: Figment of Mike's imagination, bartender at Club Scud. The real question is what happened to Mike’s sister. She was in a few strips in the early years. Mike warned Mark not to date her. His brother didn’t show up till Mike went home to visit.

Trudeau introduced a lot of characters that never or rarely reappeared after his mid-80s break, like Rufus/Thor, Malcolm, B.D.‘s parents (who I believe last appeared as he was shipping off to ’Nam), plus there were the inconsistencies of the main cast’s relatives (i.e. Mike’s mysterious sister) and the completely different look to Zonker’s parents (Baby Bumpkins!) than what he established later.
On a side note, how could Butts be a figment of Mike’s imagination but be regarded as real by Duke and Honey at Club Scud?
