I am not surprised. I have met some white people, who have strange ideas about us, and I have made roughly two friends who learned and adjusted to the idea that we have a lot more than what the papers and tv culture keep pushing about us.

As a white person, I will admit to complete ignorance of black culture beyond what I see and sometimes read in the news. I see a people with an incredibly strong community spirit and desire to be a community instead of all us white folks locked up in our own little house and not knowing our neighbors. And I read stories of very tight family bonds and the sacrifices that some parents make to help their kids get ahead. Not so much in our world, sadly. I know we can be a bunch of arrogant privileged jerks but please keep trying to give us a chance. As you have found, there a few of us who are willing to learn.
