Principal: John, you're a great teacher and I think you're fabulous and there's no easy way to say it, so I'm going to be blunt. But you gotta promise me you won't panic. We don't need another stroke, right? John: OK. Principal: You're going to have some inner-city ghetto youth in your class this year, but it's under control. As the principal, I'll be here for any help you may need. John: Hold me. Principal: Absolutely not.

Forty years ago, when I first went to the US, I worked for an inner city school district as a high school substitute teacher. I’m very white (pasty even) and very, very English. Everyone thought I’d be eaten alive, and I probably would have been but for Benny Hill’s TV comedy. They absolutely loved him, and as soon as I spoke it rubbed off on me. True story I’d forgotten about till I saw your comic.
