It may skip around some, but it’s hardly boring. And the current writers never said they were trying to imitate Gould down to the letter. Chester himself was always innovative and doing new stuff ( Moon Maid, etc) so if he were alive today who’s to say he wouldn’t be writing the strip just like Mike and Joe are now, with guests from other strips?
It’s more than just guests from other strips now, the Orphan Annie regulars have taken over this story. Tracy hasn’t been seen much lately and has had no impact on the story for even longer. This is the weakest “Dick Tracy" story that Staton and Curtis have come up with by far. Could someone please notify me when it is over so I can skip it until then and then check back in to see if Staton and Curtis can get the strip back on track?
The Butcher looks like he has a Bowie knife. Punjab’s weapon looks to be a scimitar. Asp IS a weapon in himself.
Paulo better get away while the gettin’ is good – he has no idea what these two newcomers want with him or the Butcher or both of them, but it all doesn’t look good.
I don’t know which Brow story the writer is referring to, but it was fairly straightforward, and the Blank was a bit of a murder mystery, neither were as disjointed as the present arc.
Sometimes Gould would go for weeks without showing Tracy as he concentrated on the villain’s part of the story…its nothing unusual at all…check out parts of the flattop storyline or Mr. Bribery, Piggy Butcher…the list goes on…
I used to know this guy from the block where I lived. He was always making a fool of himself. I think his name was Oinky Bacon. A real slob! Wonder whatever happened to him?

Good morning fellow DT and Annie fans!
If I was the butcher, I’d take off. Punjab and the Asp are no match for his knife.

This strip just skips too much all over the place now. Nothing makes sense. Oh for the days of Gould…..

What’s that guy yelling about? Punjab and Asp just saved his bacon! (Well, for now anyway…)

Asp looks like he should be sitting at a poker table with Bret Maverick.

Never bring a knife to a scimitar fight.

The Butcher’s chintzy little survival knife is not nearly a match for Punjab’s heavy scimitar. But were I he, I’d more fear the Asp….

Somehow, i seriously doubt the Butcher will ‘come along quietly’….i see a ‘mussing up’ coming fairly quickly….

Punjab is most likely wielding a scimitar, although it could be a type of falchion sword:Falchion
