Although Slim’s mother has been around for many years, his cousin first appeared only a few years ago, asking questions about the family. By the way, is it only me, but does anyone else see a resemblance to a character actor? I can’t quite recall his name.
Are you thinking of the late Jim Varney, the guy who played dimwit Ernest P. Worrell?
BTW, thanks for the reply yesterday, DJJG. I didn’t start reading GA again until I found the GoComics site almost three years ago. Still wondering whatever happened to Melba, who was Rufus’ squeeze and later became mayor (if I’m not mistaken). Seem to recall a character named Hoogie back in the day…wasn’t she Rover’s sister?
That’s one of the things I like about GA: Jim respects the history of the strip. I do wish Slim wasn’t always the butt of jokes or Clovia’s scorn, but that goes back at least to the Dick Moores Era.
Hoogy’s father was a shady type who wandered into the strip at one point and hung around for a while before wandering off. Rover met Hoogy again as an adult, and eventually they got married. Their son, Boog, is now ten years old. You’d think Lil would have retired from the con-game game, considering she must be in her late 80s or early 90s by now (Slim is at least 65).
Now that he was mentioned, he does look a little likeJoe E. Brown. He ate bananas in almost all of his moviesand was best know for being loud & going HHAAAYYYY!!

Yes, Stevero, I recall a broad-upper-lipped character—-but I just cannot think of who it is—-a comedian of sorts—-

It’s good to see Slim’s mother back in the story line but I wish Jim will leave cousin Chubby at home. Can’t stand this guy.
