Checked out “Hamlet” from my school library when I was in fifth grade because I wanted to see what Shakespeare was all about. What I read of it over several pages was nearly indecipherable for a 10-year-old. Too much, too soon.
In college I took a “power reading” class. It taught me how to skim through the contents of a book or article and pick up the meaning without reading word for word.
A great idea when you are studying for a college exam; but if you want to read for enjoyment, it just isn’t the same…
I have always been a reader, and I read very fast, sometimes skipping elaborate descriptive passages. I also like to re-read books and can always pick up something new! With “Catch-22”, I made several tries, would get halfway and then bog down. Finally I just started in the middle and finished. Now I can read it straight through.

I once checked out “The Brothers Karamazov” at my previous county library, but only got approximately 25% read before returning it.

This is the same kid who’ll be assigned to do a book report on War & Peace over the Christmas Break. ;-)

I like Charlie Brown’s cap, it looks like a French painters cap!

Just the other day Charlie Brown and Shermy were reading a “Kids at Play” sign. (Maybe only Shermy could read it.)

Want a long book for the ages?…Just try reading “The Silmmarion” by Tolkien,,Like Lays potato chips…“Bet you can’t read just one verse.”
