I too had that experience to a favorite cap of mine. I think it was with a sewn-on elastic band from underwear I used to replace it. Then later one as the cap was getting worn own, I had to throw it away in the garbage.
That’s why I keep a couple of stacks of favorite hats. I rotate through them on occasion. I must have about 30 of them. One is over forty years old from when I played ball as a kid.
I’m wearing a ball cap I got in Guilin a couple of years back. Maybe not far from where it was actually made. I had to sew it to fit my head because the buckle didn’t work, but as near as I can tell, I paid less than one US dollar for it, so it was still a bargain.

Happened to my favorite Clemson Tigers cap – thanks to a puppy dog.

The stack of hats is on the bench by the door. Grab a random one every time I head out.

Happened also to my husband’s favourite cap too. It was one of the cats that did it to his cap.

Real pluggers don’t wear caps with plastic straps. They buy them to size.

My favorite hat is the one I still have from Marine Corps boot camp. 38 years ago. Can’t wear it though, to small.

To me it looks like it was nibbled on by a hungry mouse…

You can tell the bald pluggers who favor those hats, because they all have this little sunburned patch at the back of their noggin.
