Could it be that someone’s getting tired of visiting the in-laws on Sunday?

MeGoNow – Yes, watching sports on TV was my other take on this, too. (But the thought of Mark drawing his mother-in-law like this was just so hilarious… although probably more unlikely.)

I found the comments to this cartoon interesting. Only Mark knows the specific reference he’s making, but I took this cartoon not as a reference to sports but to going to church. It works either way. Just found it interesting that people went right the the sports interpretation…most likely due to the reference of the “afternoon”. Then again, in this society of people who are not going to church, but are kneeling to the sports gods, it would make sense that people gravitate towards that interpretation.

DanReynolds: We are a long way from dinner on the grounds so few churches have Sunday afternoon events. Sports are the “deity” considered: Texas football, Indiana basketball, etc.

Some folks spend a chunk of their weekends doing more than passively staring at their idol of choice and quaffing its spokesperson’s litany of myth and dogma. Instead, they actively participate in meditation and philosophical discussion centered on the meaning of life and focused on the virtues of goodwill, compassion, and unconditional service to their fellow beings. Sadly, regardless of the emblem atop their gathering place, nearly all such meetings are heavily diluted with masses of passive quaffers, but the enlightened ones in the minority continue undeterred. They do get a bit annoying, though, because most are too self-actualized to hate Mondays like everyone else.
