Notice that today both Calvin and Susie have “cartoon character” hands with three fingers and a thumb. This is the norm for all of the characters in the strip. Occasionally Bill Watterson would draw four fingers and a thumb, especially in close-ups.

I had the college teacher die of a heart attack once and we didn’t class for 3 weeks. All we did was assignment on the board every class for those 3 weeks and when he was replaced about a week before the end, we had one of the easiest final exams I have ever had when I was at college.

I never of a substitute student. Good one.For me I been taking on-line studies my last year. I finish in the fall. Not sure I will pass one kind of test for field of work.

In later years, Calvin may try the substitute wife concept!

However, as married men so often discover, it will be very expensive and end badly…

Wonder if Calvin will change his name when the substitute teacher asks.

No … A substitute Calvin could be worse than the real Calvin like many substitute teachers are worse than the real teachers.

Not necessarily. I remember having an occasional substitute teacher who was a lot of fun!

Of course, I don’t recall if I learned anything; but the substitute was fun!
