Of course, they’ve been playing soccer in America for a century and a half, and the US was the third place finisher in the World Cup in 1930, but what the heck.
Is that the cranky grampa from “Cleats” calling? The one who’s always trying to get his soccer-playing grandson to play baseball, teaching him all kinds of weird, improbable pitches?
Not every kid is coordinated enough to play baseball, tall enough for basketball, or strong enough for American football. But most kids, boys or girls, can run and kick a ball. Youth soccer is a great way for kids to learn team play and have fun.I’m a retired FIFA referee and have officiated at all levels of the sport. My fondest memories aren’t of the professional matches I’ve refereed, but the kids games, that I did for free.My favorite age group was the 6 & 7 year olds. They understood. Soccer is really a kid’s game !
The REAL Reason Soccer isn’t “Popular” in America: They never Stop Playing..Rules like that don’t leave any time for the sales of Beer & Hot Dogs in the stadium or make any allowance for TV Commercials when Broadcast..That one little 15 minute break for Halftime just doesn’t cut it.Any American Sportscaster around can bloviate for at least Twice that Before the Commercial Break..Why, those players don’t even take a 20 minute victory dance when they Score.How can they call themselves “Athletes” with behaviour like that?.{Snark Off}
