Speaking from considerable experience (having had several major surgeries), I know how Rita is feeling. That was always the fun part of those procedures.
Bill when I had mine last August they knocked me out also but it took 6 hours before I was fully awake and aware of what I was doing and my surroundings. My brother in law got a kick out of me and has stories that I don’t wanna ever hear…some of us don’t come out of anesthesia very well!
Yeah it usually doesn’t have that effect on me…sort of… last time I felt fine so I decided to walk the dog….I actually don’t remember going from one part of the street to another… so this time I will just stay home.
I’ve only ever been groggy. And I can’t see when I wake up. No, surgery is not a pleasant thing, even if you discount the two weeks of pain that comes after.
Medications? They are supposed to give some medications? Not for me, just “lay on the bench on Your left side, and by the way we are having a student watching”.
This whole colonoscopy sequence seems really weird to me, including the comments. I’ve had this procedure a few times, with never any “medication” or anesthesia or even a suggestion that any might be needed. Never took longer than half an hour, no lingering discomfort, and no suggestion that I might need help getting home.
As for “preparation”, it was restricting myself to clear liquids starting the night before, then taking a strong laxative a couple of hours before the procedure..If there’s so much difference in the procedure, can we really trust that they know what they’re doing? Or were the “extras” you others experienced simply ways of adding to the price? Then again, a couple of you mentioned “surgery”. The “colonoscopy” I’m familiar with isn’t surgery by any stretch of the imagination. Are there two different procedures going under the same name? jukorte’s description seems to be the only one that agrees with my experience.

Actually, the staff might find Rita tolerable when she’s high.

Can’t think who the Dr. reminds me of, something by Crumb, maybe?

Or maybe someone from Simpson’s Springfield?

They just knocked me out for my colonoscopy, no pain meds (no one I know has had pain meds for it). I was groggy for a bit, not high.

Hope you have someone to drive you home. My doctor required someone else to be there.

It will later occur to Rita that it’s the best date she’s had in the past ten years.

Hasn’t anybody wondered why she’s thinking nice of Melvin after her procedure? A little fantasy, maybe?
Yeah, I can be gross sometimes.

Apparently my colon is quite normal so at least one part of me is. :)
