    Of course the supersized diet cola will completely offset the week’s worth of calories from the burgers and fries. makes sense to me.On another note, I am reminded again of the importance of telling people—and acting on those words—that you care about them while you can. The wife of a former colleague of mine has experienced a sudden loss of cognition over the past two months. They are still running tests to determine if it is Alzheimer’s or a tumor or whatever, but the bottom line is that she doesn’t know anyone any more.Lesson: Don’t assume that you can do something tomorrow.

    I have a relative who orders a Vente Caramel Macciatto and put 5 packets of Splenda in it. Doesn’t see the irony……….

    Well, I’ll trade off calories/carbs in drinks for calories/carbs in FOOD any day. Mostly drink water these days, and coffee with stevia (or Splenda in a pinch.)….90 lb less of me since my type 2 diagnosis in 2011, and my A1C is down to non-diabetic level.…mikie2, sorry about your friend.

    @mikie2

    that is right live for the day make the most of what you have and sorry for your friend

    @TheWildSow

    down 68lbs (with another 72 lbs. to go to a goal of 170) and 1 point from being normal and out of pre-diabetic. Thanks to my bicycle. WE can beat it . agree on the carbs lots of sparkling water here and unsweeten iced tea. Funny thing is I am finding I like the flavor of things like kale

    The thing about dinette set most of it does not fit the way I am or was. However there was a point a few years ago I was supersizing everything and looking for the buffet and largest portion. The booths were snug. Now I look at quality over quanity

    Supersize a triple cheeseburger and a large fry, what do you get, a chicken bucket filled up with fries. Eating like that in the car, I am surprised he can hold on to the steering wheel.

    Hopefully the fries are soft cooked in hydrogenated corn oil for maximum cholesterol benefit.

    A supersize and a diet soda – reminds me of folks who put Splenda in their coffee – to wash down a donut!

    Mikie – my dad started being unable to remember the names of his parishioners, and progressed to the point he couldn’t find the silverware in the kitchen. It turned out he had a benign brain tumor, and was mentally fine within three days of the surgery.If your friend’s wife is on any meds, make sure somebody keeps her on track. My dad forgot to take his hypertension meds and spent the last eight years of his life on dialysis. (And No, I don’t know why my mother didn’t notice the bottle never got empty.) They moved back to Maryland to be close to my sister and me, he took a tiny inner-city parish, and was writing a sermon when he died. She may still have a long, full life ahead of her.Can you give us all her first name, so we can pray for her? God will know “Mikie’s friend’s wife”, but it’s nice to put a name to her.

    I still test 2x a day. My blood levels are great! …When I was really little I used to watch Grandma give herself insulin shots. And wondered how anyone could DO that!Later, I watched my Dad (her son) ignore his diabetes for 15 years, and then take it seriously after he had to start insulin. He immediately became compliant, followed his diet religiously, and lost about 40 lb.…..Eight months later, he died of a massive heart attack in his sleep. A year and a half younger than I am now.…When my doc diagnosed me, I got real compliant right away. Right now I’m sitting here sipping unsweetened mint iced tea, made with mint from the garden.….I still eat yummy food. In moderation! But if I want something high carb once in a while, I’d still wash it down with coffee & stevia! As I said, calories or carbs in food trump them in drinks any day.
