It’s like those putzes that have been posting all week that this is a repeat. Two words: Prove it.

Repeat…? I must have slept through the first run.

Hugh, interesting point. As Zonker would point out, short-term memory loss combined with old age are a bummer of a combination, especially when GT repeats fairly recent strips.

If he’s going to repeat, why not give us some classics from 10-15-20 years ago? I think his audience would appreciate the nostalgia while being whisked back to GT’s relevant days.

Good point, Zip. I remember neither the speakers nor their words at any of my commencement ceremonies… high school, bachelor’s degree, masters… Nope, not a one.

Still got the robes, though.

I read Doonesbury in the Philadelphia Inquirer (remember newspapers?). It says over the strip that GT is on vacation and that this week’s strips are repeats. There’s your proof, HBH. New strips return June 7.

Graduation speakers are usually amped up.

I’m not sure at all, but wasn’t GT a commencement speaker sometime in the past? If so, maybe he’s poking fun of himself. Don’t have time to check this out, maybe someone does.

The ‘proof’ is right in the comic, that it’s a repeat. You just need to learn how to read. Copyright 2009. Get a clue.

GT’s decision, while on vacation (see WaitingMan’s information, above), to repeat this commencement arc shows that GT cares more about the rite of graduation than do the Zippers among his readers. They seem to brag that their education had no lasting effect–and their bragging proves it.

Kudos to GBT for the light that he has shone on our soldiers and veterans who are too often ignored. GBT is on a “working vacation”. He was at the BookExpo in New York on Wednesday to promote “40: A Doonesbury Retrospective” which will be published on October 26, 2010. To quote from the Intro, “So this anthology isn’t about the defining events of the last four decades. It is instead about how it felt to live through those years-a loosely organized chronicle of modern times, as crowdsourced by what was once called ‘the Doonesbury Gang’”.

The copyright date could mean anything, I’m going by the 5-28 in the bottom of the first panel, so far I’ve seen people blowing smoke at me, but I haven seen proof yet that this one particular strip is a repeat. I have most of the archives of this comic going back to 1972 and commencement speech is a common theme, so I figure some have have a case of deja vu but it all comes back to the fact that…I HAVEN’T SEEN PROOF YET.

I have no idea who my commencement speaker was. I was hiking in Germany that day and missed the ceremony.

Funny, I thought it was wonderful that Obama was elected, and I didn’t think he was a Messaiah, just an exceptionally qualified human being, and I waited eagerly to see what he would do.

Pretty good, so far. Especially for a non-Messaiah.
