I never understood the “better not pout” part (other than it conveniently rhymes). As a little kid I seldom cried but was definitely a “pouter”. It always seemed to me that parents (and everyone else) would (or should) much prefer to have a kid who is a quiet pouter than a crier, or worse. This bugs me every Christmas, and my wife is REALLY tied of me complaining (pouting?) about his whenever that song comes on the radio!
