    Even though his theories had become the foundation of nuclear fission, and, at the urging of other scientists,he’d written an important letter to the US government to ask for funding for the Manhattan Project, by the 1950’s Einstein considered nuclear weapons the biggest threat to civilization..

    He said he’d been told the Germans were close to developing an atomic bomb..When he later discovered that to be untrue, he deeply regretted having had anything to do with developing them.
