Funny, I just assumed absolutely everyone who reads the words “feelin’ groovy” immediately hears the song, thinks of Simon and Garfunkel, and pictures their heads together on the cover of “Wednesday Morning 3 A.M.” Timeless. (I wish.) :)
My first summer out of high school I had already bought a car (with money earned flipping burgers…different world!) but my parents thought I wasn’t mature enough for my license. So all that summer I walked across town to catch the 6:30 train to work a couple of towns down the line, and back home. I rushed in the morning, but in the evening I strolled. And as I strolled I sang either “When I’m 64” or “The 59th Street Bridge Song.” Sometimes I’d take myself to dinner at Big Boy and read a John LeCarre novel. Nice memories of burgeoning adulthood. And then there was the guy in the ‘Vette with the California plates who stopped to offer me a ride…but that’s another story. “Look at the fun in feelin’ GROOVY!”

I love those “feeling groovy” days. I wish every day was a “feeling groovy” day. Some days just take the stuffing out of you.

One of their songs I remember playing in 7th Grade Band about four years after this strip was “El Condor Pasa.”
