In a movie, a closed door like this would imply that the characters were going to have sex.-But this isn’t a movie, and I’m not going to infer anything like that.

Looks like Piro is pulling the same trick on every girl in college.

… and then Prudence inexplicably comes in and says “LOVE your scarf!”

I don’t even want to know what’s happening between Tiffany and Piro in the final panel.

I agree – when Piro says he’s looking for a place to crash, that’s probably what he’s looking for. I’m not sure what Tiffany is looking for… Anyhow, the setup may be salacious but the result will probably be anything but.

I hasten to add – I suspect Tiffany’s just looking for a sympathetic ear at this point.

I’m getting the impression that Pyro is homeless. They have those types in college you know. Those who for one reason or another just don’t have a place to live.

doesn’t it looks like this isn’t the first time Pyro actually sleep in Tiffany’s room ?

They both look pretty casual about it, he even really asked her and she wasn’t putting her best smile at him either.Tiffany can be selfish and self-oriented but she is less “inhibited” than Bernice, I am not sure she would make a big fuss of hacing a guy crash on her counch for the night.I think that this is the real big revelation that will happen. Bernice and Gunther will see Pyro leave Tiff’ room and they both become jealous and had to admit their feeling. The trick would be that this jealousy would also show Tiff’ how her so called “friends” or at least “high school acquouintance” really perceive her.

I go with poignant. Gunther reminds me of the guy in “Candorville.”. Always an intense focus on the wrong thing. These three frames were good theater though. We are already wondering, “what’s next?”

She could simply be slamming her door in jealous disgust. Tiff can be a brat, you know.

Can’t help but wonder if Piro was on his way to Bernice’s room. That would have been more interesting with 2 men in her room after 10PM.

We are all assuming that Piro went into Tiffany’s room, of course. I suppose he did; but how easily we leap to conclusions!If he did enter her room, i take him at his word, that he seeks a crashpad and nothing more. And I expect that that is all, essentially, that Tiffany will offer other than maybe a cup of coffee and some very brief conversation. Piro is extremely laconic (and probably tired), and Tiff is no great conversationalist, either….Net outcome: maybe some jealousy, or maybe nothing at all. I am not sure how attuned to such rumor Oxford would be, as he is an Honest Man such as Diogenes sought, amongst collegiate personality types, or characters, as ancient literature would have it….

And When THAT is Over You can get back to Your REAL Task in Life. That is, Devoting ALL of Your Energy and Considerable Intellect to Getting RID of Pretty Boy ONCE and For ALL.

Now we need someone in higher authority than Bernice to catch both Gunther with Bernice and Piro with Tiffany. Punishment for both. Bernice will be humiliated that she is being held up in public humiliation for immoral conduct alongside Tiffany.

Uh, Tiff? If you’re thinking of making Gunther jealous, you’re probably wasting your time – remember he doesn’t respond to normal “guy stuff.”

Perhaps Bernice will turn Gunther away because it’s after curfew, he’ll return to Tiff’s room to find Pyro there, and we’ll be treated to “Jealous Gunther” again.

All this time I guessed Piro was a student – now I am wondering is he simply hangs out there and isn’t even enrolled for anything.

3Hmmm. Interesting developments today, indeed. While I cannot say what will happen of course, here are the things I hope DO NOT happen:1. I hope that Piro staying with Tiffany is not going to play as Tiffany’s way to “get back” at Gunther for not “seeing her” interest in Gunther. 2. I hope that Tiffany does not get physical in any fashion with Piro.3. I hope that Piro’s character is not going to become some sort of “predator” type character. 4. I now also hope that Gunther is not going to actually ask out Bernice.So, what do I HOPE will transpire associated with today’s panels?1. Piro crashes with Tiffany for the evening, but there is no attempt at sexual intimacy by either individual. 2. It would be interesting and enjoyable if Piro opened up to Tiffany and told his backstory. It would also be nice if Tiffany opened up to Piro and told her backstory.3. I hope that Bernice turns Gunther down if he does ask her for a date. So that is about it. However, here are another few comments in general:1. The shirt Gunther is wearing this week reads somewhat “Charlie Brown-esque” to me. Perhaps Greg is using variations in Gunther’s clothing to suggest whether he is in a “thinking and caring mode” or in a “blockhead” mode? 2. All this week I have been again enjoying the facial expressions Greg has been giving Tiffany. Over the last several months as Tiffany has become more developed in college, Greg has done a very nice job of adding to her facial expressions. I can read a lot more sincerity, openness, and even a bit of fragility in Tiffany’s character through Greg’s newer facial expressions.

And, as one wise commenter said yesterday, when Gunth knocks on Bern’s door, Dez will answer. My, but college is teaching them flexibility!

I had been thinking of the theme of this arc as being ‘lack of communication’, which is sort of a continuing theme (the DeGroots not really communicating with Prudence to find out anything about her or her play; Luann and Quill not communicating to find out how important Pru is or not to Quill, etc.)

But your theme is a lot funnier. So thanks for a more cheerful take on all this…

A true Gunther moment would be: Bernice turns him down. He returns to Tiff’s and the door is locked. Too bad so sad.

Let the gossiping begin. In my daughters college dorm you can’t get into the dorm building without a key card. Who is letting Piro into the building? Very unsafe for students.

There is no sign at all that Tiff invited Piro inside. She could have said Goodnight and closed her door. Probably not, but no proof he got an invite.

Dude comes across as a parasite to me, but I’m not a cartoon character.(I think.)

No time to check if this is a repeat: how do we know piro is in there? Mr. Spock would not assume.

And perhaps Tiffany closed the door to him and he walked on by and out of the panel. Probably not, but possible, right?

Piro was not necessarily heading for Tiff’s, though he could have crashed there before. long ago. after a party..Of course, he may have been heading for Bernice’s. But would he? Did she make him really feel welcome?.Or he may have been heading for Hair’s room just beyond that.

As always with Gary, I end up being disappointed or frustrated, but never really satisfied. Hopefully, Saturday’s strip will redeem this dead end for Gunther & Tiffany. There is no chemistry between Bernice and Gunther. They could hold their own ice festival and call it a date. I can remember only one time that I actually was pleased with something, and that’s when Gunther grabbed Rosa and kissed her in the school hallway. Greg’s drawing talent is worth the price of admission, but geeze guy, give us some happiness in your story telling.

-I can’t cut and paste ‘toons, so I can’t show this one to you but Piro has reported that he crashes in guy’s rooms, too.

When Piro returned to Bernice’s dorm room to crash, he said he’d been staying with a ‘buddy’ who ended up having a girlfriend stay over, so he had to leave.

So, again, I figure Piro is homeless, and spends most of his time (like a lot of homeless folks) trying to find safe places to stay during the next night.

And I can speak directly to the issue of homelessness and colleges. I was a volunteer for a crisis switchboard at the University of Arizona, way back during the Vietnam War. (That’s how old I am.) We thought we would be handling first year students who were depressed or what, but we ended up dealing with a bunch of PTSD vets who camped out in the desert at night, and hitched in to the campus during the day. There would be contractors who would drive by and pick up some of these guys for day jobs.

And eventually our crisis switchboard (and the Campus Christian Center that housed it) was shut down by the police at the request of the ministers, because we had so many homeless vets and people who might otherwise have used the Center were afraid to come.

None of the vets ended up in jail, though. As I recall, those that the VA couldn’t help were given bus tickets to other towns by the ministers…

One out; One in.

If only life were so simple.

I know, I know. It’s only a comic strip. But for the first time, I realize that Tiff really craves a close relationship, but doesn’t really know how to pursue one.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s?

I wish we could learn more about Piro besides his relentless need for a place to stay which is repeatedly established. I was really hoping that Bern might play a role in drawing him out. Now…. gah!!!…. I’m beginning to wonder if he is (maybe) a better match for Tiffany. Both are opportunists with needs, though very different ones, but which could be complementary. She has this big plush pad with no one in it but herself. She wants company. He needs a place to stay…….voila………

From what we have been shown Piro doesn’t have a mean or violent bone in his body. Tiffany tried very hard to seduce him last year. She received his puzzled gaze mostly. Piro’s needs are very very basic… food and shelter. Sadly we will not likely learn more about him until these needs are met.

Even at the 2nd party, when Tiffany saw that Piro was there, she ran off and returned in a highly revealing outfit. But there was no corresponding response on his part. But when she announced that it would be cold outside he offered her his scarf. I do think Piro is a gentleman in spite of his situation. It would appear the students in the dorm see him as a known quantity and while ‘we’ do not know what led to his homelessness, I believe it is clear that he is not a physical threat to anyone, male or female. Frankly, Tiffany is more likely to try come on to him than the other way around.

I can’t stand Piro.

Is he a student, or what?

Also, I think Gunther needs his head examined. or something!
