Well, we moved the birth of Jesus on the calendar to coincide with the winter harvest thereby celebrating 2 events at the same time. Then we introduced the Feast of Saint Nicholas into the mix and the Pope decided on the date of December 25th. After that many writers and marketers bastardized the base meaning for the celebration leaving us with what we have today.

In Europe, St. Nicholas brings gifts to children on December 6th, and the Three Kings visit Spain on January 6th. Pere Noel does France on January 1st. December 25th is strictly a religious holiday.

Christians believe in Easter. It is our only religious day of celebration, as retold in all four of our Gospels. Christmas is a time for fun with family and friends – if one does not try to make it into something it is not, it is a joyful time.
