They were husband & wife in real life, & of course were also regulars in the original Mission Impossible TV series.

I rather liked “Space: 1999”, in spite of its limitations. I have to admit, however, that I felt the first season was much better than the second season was.

The Eagle Transporters were my favorite part of the show. They still look cool.

Given Roy’s liberal use of the mind trick in the past, it’s probably wise that Carolina’s keeping her comments to herself here. Her poor brain probably can’t handle much more :D

I wanted to pilot the Eagles, but it was only for men. :(

Always a risk setting a story of the future in a year your audience will live to see. Star Trek was wise, giving themselves a good long lead. If anyone is still watching today’s entertainment in the 23rd century, then they can date whether it was accurate. 1999 sounded pretty far off when that show debuted- but it was closer than we thought.

Definitely loved the Eagles – no idea why but they were fantastic back in the day – well into re-runs in my case.Based on my to-watch list I think the whole series is on Youtube.

In 1987, a book came out listing the 15 best and 10 worst science-fiction shows of all time and “Space: 1999” topped the worst list. Someone made the comment that, if the people on Earth were able to look up and see the moon in the sky when an explosion on the dark side knocked it out of orbit, it would’ve smashed into the planet and saved everyone a lot of trouble.

I have the episodes to re-watch someday just to remember how bad it was, and how Barbara Bain could act without ever showing emotion

Space 1999, maybe the top of Anderson’s Supermarionation, though I heard that a redo, may be 3-d of Captain Scarlet was on the horizon some years ago. Too much geekdom began from Gerry Anderson’s work.

Had the action figures and the Eagle One as a child. Last I looked they were around $400 on eBay.

…. and now down to $75.

Awesome! Now I don’t feel so bad about tossing it out the bedroom window for the “crashing landings” I always put it through.

Hey! Battle Beyond the Stars was wonderfully campy!! You just can’t take it seriously. Besides it provided (or used) lots of shots that can be seen in LOTS of other campy Sci-Fi movies. BBTS is one of my guilty pleasures. :o)

Space:1999 affected the development of Star Wars, but not in the way that you would expect. Originally, the Millenium Falcon was to have a cockpit up front, a strong-back holding a cargo module in the middle and a cluster of large engines in the rear, with four landing legs, just like the Eagles. The design team thought that the series would be running at the time the film was released, so they changed the design to the one we know today.

There have been new thoughts on that, Jason Barnes of the University of Idaho did paper at AAS showing even without moon earth’s tilt would go from 10 to 20 degrees, life still possible but huge variations in climate over 500 million years. That’s because of Jupiter, it really defines plane of solar system. “we don need no steekin mooners”
