Oh, and I’m using Bierce’s second definition of Yankee:..YANKEE, n. In Europe, an American. In the Northern States of our Union, a New Englander. In the Southern States the word is unknown. (See DAMNYANK.)
Hubby and I dance this dance at bedtime. I turn the heat own to 62, and he wants to keep it at 70 all night. I think its wasteful to warm the house when we’re already under the covers nd he claims it takes ore to bring the heat back up in the daytime. After 41 years we still haven’t settled it.
In winter I am burning up at anything over 72, while my wife is freezing at anything under that. This is after any clothing or blanket adjustments on both of us. The cats cuddle on me because she doesn’t pet them.In the summer, she leaves the doors and windows wide open for fresh humid air and outdoor sounds and bugs, while complaining about the bugs. The dogs keep me awake panting at night. She has a hissy fit when I want to use the air conditioning as the temperature gets into the upper 80s. It takes me 45 minutes to recover from 15 minutes of work outside. I work in a greenhouse, she works in an office where the boss cranks the AC down to where everyone else is freezing. So I end up suffering for his sins.
i would sometimes leave the thermostat higher after the cat got old and frail. Shorts and t-shirt are fine if you are outside and active. inside and sedentary, not so much.
I normally keep my thermostat set at 58º during the winter. I spot heat the room where I spend most of my time with a radiator style space heater and wear something warm on top of my regular clothes.I had my house weatherized a couple years back, and the people who did the work recommended setting the thermostat to 55º at night and when you leave your home, but if it is that cold, I can’t sleep (it is amazing what a difference of just 3º makes). I will sometimes turn the heat up to 65º, if I am going to take a shower, or am feeling extra cold.
24C is an ideal outside temp in my part of the world. You can wear anything and do anything, night and day, in complete comfort so that’s what I keep my house at during the winter. 24/7. And why not? It’s a gift to me. During the summer though I don’t try to maintain 24 with AC. Just way to much waste. 3 or 4 degrees below the outside temp and it ‘feels’ cooler.
I agree with the folks who like to keep it warm and comfortable…. It doesn’t cost much more and it makes winter more bearable….I do turn it down a bit at night….Anyway, he did it for Luddy his little buddy….

62° ! That’s a tad cool. We keep our thermostat at 68°. Even then we have to wear a sweater or sweat shirt in the house.

I just keep it off when not at home(no pets), otherwise 68 is good.

Cats have fur for a reason. That said, all the cats I’ve ever known love to lay in front of a nice hot fire on cold winter days!

Sorry, I can’t get the AC to get down that low.

House is always too cold, all the cats block the heater vents when the furnace is on.

I set the thermostat at whatever is necessary to be comfortable. Suffering to save a few pennies seems silly to me.
