So true. It’s the refractive index of the liquid in the bottle, along with the curvature of the surface of the bottle, serving as a convex, lens that start the campfire when used to concentrate sunlight into a beam sufficiently intense to cause spontaneous combustion of materials out-gassed from heated tinder.As Mae West always stipulated, if you have the proper curvature, you can do just about anything.

You can use a bottle to focus sunlight onto tinder to start a fire. It’s true that glass by itself is not campfire fuel.
