Zen Pencils by Gavin Aung Than for May 16, 2016
Transcript:
I would rather be ashes than dust! I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze… …than it should be stifled by dry-rot. I would rather be a superb meteor… …every atom of me in magnificent glow… …than a sleepy and permanent planet. The proper function of man is to live… …not to exist. I shall not waste my days… …in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time. - Jack London

Live fast, die young and leave a beautiful corpse?
Or be like Ozzy and Keith Richards – live fast, and keep on living fast.
They’re immortals.

Lovely.

There are people who are steady planets by nature and not fiery comets. They also use their time, just in a different way. I do hope Jack London was satisfied with what he achieved.

Yes, Jack squeezed a lot of life in his 40 years. Sadly he was an alcoholic and addicted to morphine, too. If you really want a treat, read his “The Star Rover” (aka “The Jacket” in the UK). And for a horrific view of poverty and misery in the early 20th century read his nonfiction book, “The People of the Abyss.” Most or all of his writings are available free in ebook format.

Great art!One problem for this kind of living: the woman in panels 5 through 8 is abandoned. How fair is this to her?
