I once found a wallet and returned it. The person to whom it belonged – a working stiff like the rest of us – took all the money that was in it and gave it to me. “If you hadn’t returned it, I’d have lost it anyway.”
I lost a wallet while on a ride some years ago. An elderly gentleman found it, called me and gave me directions to his home to pick it up. I didn’t give him cash in return but I was extremely grateful. And, learning he was a fellow veteran, we talked for a while before I headed home.

I bet he gets nothing for returning it.

I hope he will get something for his trouble. Otherwise he’ll regret having done the right thing.

You know, I have a brother that did the same thing, even though all the kids he was with told him to keep the money.

I believe if he takes that money home, his mother is going to make him return it anyway. Easiest thing is to be honest; fewer explanations that way.
