It’s bad enough that this is not really funny — like most strips, The Argyle Sweater misses more often than it hits — but on top of that, this is more like a cartoon for a dirty magazine than for a newspaper. We have become a coarse people with no sense of propriety, and it shows in everything from our comic strips to our politics.

As for the part about it being offensive, you missed my point. I’m more nonplussed by the cartoon than offended; the problem is that the comics page of a newspaper is not an appropriate place for this kind of adult humor. There may be a time and a place for everything, but not every time and every place are for every thing.
