Velveta on Wonder Bread. You roll it up into balls and get both delicious tastes at the same time. Bonus: you can keep them in your pocket for later and have one anytime. Your friends will envy you…..if they are seven years old.

When I was little my great-aunt used to make me sardine sandwiches on Wonder Bread. I hadn’t had a sardine in something like thirty years when I decided to see if I still liked them..Short answer, yes. But now I prefer them on pumpernickel.

I prefer a Kaiser roll or other bun for a super sandwich. But I’ll take whole wheat bread over Panini or pita bread too, so I’m essentially with Earl on this.

Do they still make Wonder Bread? I grew up eating it, then I moved out and discovered breads with taste and texture and haven’t had plain white since.

No Wonder bread here. I make my own. (BTW, did you know it was called Wonder read because it was the first bread to be pre-sliced?)

I’m with Grog. I like wheat bread, or pumpernickle, so I’m essentially with Earl. I wouldn’t go to a restaurant that had only pita and panini. In fact, I’d be more apt to go to one that served only wonder bread (typically a truck-stop).

I always figured there must be a good reason they called it PITA bread!

Wonder bread still exists; my wife bought a loaf of whole grain in the last shopping trip. It is now in the freezer, so I have no verdict on it yet..water_moonThe flour ones, you are probably right, but the proper corn ones are sui generis and not cornbread either.

Maizing said,@David Warnick“Yup. I remember that ad. They add in about half the nutrients that are taken out when white flour is made.”.I like nearly all kinds of bread. My doctor told me to not eat anything with wheat products, rice potatoes, sugar, taste,…. Just joking. He doesn’t care how it tastes..Nonetheless, griping at one brand of bread for doing what all did and the public demanded doesn’t make a whole lot of sense..My buddy, Wikki tells me several things about Wonder Bread which I find interesting and duty-bound to pass on:.“During the 1940s, Continental Baking began adding vitamins and minerals to Wonder Bread as part of a government-sponsored program of enriching white bread, which was notoriously deficient in vitamin and mineral content, to combat certain diseases. Known as the “Quiet Miracle”, this development is credited with greatly reducing the incidence of the diseases beriberi and pellagra. Wonder was also the first national bread brand to feature open dating as well as nutrition information on its packaging .".For those griping about it not being whole grain (which I also like and miss, dadgummit):“In 2006, Wonder was one of the first bread brands to introduce whole grain white breads such as “Wonder Made with Whole Grain White” as a bread that appealed to consumers who loved the taste of white bread, but who were looking for more nutrition. These breads were made with an albino wheat variety"(In other words, MUTANT CEREAL.).Continuing to become more and more nutritious:“In August 2009, Wonder reformulated its Wonder Classic and Wonder Classic Sandwich bread varieties to include more calcium and vitamin D.

“Two slices of Wonder Classic and Wonder Classic Sandwich bread then provided 30% of the daily recommended intake of calcium, the same amount as 8 fluid ounces of whole milk..

“Wonder 100% Whole Wheat (16 oz variety) qualified for the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program in most states.”(Not that infants and young children should ingest wheat products containing the protein gluten, because their digestive systems are not yet fully developed and may leak the protein through, triggering an immune response which can cause Celiac disease. Wait a few years and it is much safer for them.).“In March 2010, Wonder extended its line of bread products for families who preferred the taste of white bread, but wanted more nutrition, with the addition of Wonder Smartwhite a new bread with the taste and soft texture of white bread – but with the fiber of 100% whole wheat bread..“Most recently, Weston Bakeries Limited announced that its Wonder Bread brands will now be completely free of artificial preservatives, artificial colors or artificial flavors.”.There’s little reason to disrespect these humble packages of nutrition and fulfillment— for those who can eat them.

On an unrelated note, i check the rate of u.s. dollar devaluation by using what i call the “Wonder Index”Every june, i check the price of a loaf of Wonder Bread,The increase in price from last june reflects the devaluation percentage of the dollar.

Amen to Wonderbread. I was on a cruise ship and ordered a roast beef sandwich. By the time I got it back to the room, It had bled all over my bread! Damn thing was raw! I tried a bite, but I couldn’t get past the pinky/red bread.
