Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson for July 14, 2016
Transcript:
Phoebe: Unicorn camp and human camp aren't so different after all. I guess, human or unicorn, everybody likes lakes and canoes and camp fires and marshmallows. Marigold: I am glad you are having fun. Phoebe: I do wish the cafeteria served something besides carrots and alfalfa. Marigold: You should be more open-minded and try the hay.

That’s why I bring my own food. Or I would if I went to camps.

Try the Hay. Why, is it artisanal hay?

Try it with ketchup, Phoebe. Ketchup helps everything.

@Happyx3, re: Wind in the Willows — Still one of my favorites more than 50 years on. And Ratty is still right…NOTHING is half so much worth doing as messing about in boats — specially on a sleepy summer day, on a quiet shady stream!

Camp food…hhmmm….my first exposure to chipped beef on toast; heartburn from toast made in a fireplace; also, fresh blueberry pie baked for our cabin because we picked the most blueberries from the camp woods. Only two weeks of my life, lasted a lifetime.

If I don’t get to roast hot dogs over an open fire, I don’t call it a “summer camp”. :p
