When the temperature is 100+ during the day, and only gets down to 75 at night, the fan is only a token solution. In fact, I would be reading this from the city library if I weren’t packing to move. And my 1 room AC unit will be the last thing to go.

Ah, but if you go outside and stand over the fan on an a/c you can do that. Trouble is you get a face full of hot air.
