Max: It's weird, sleeping in someone else's house. The night sounds are different. That clock...the train horns in the distance... The snoring unicorn...
Phoebe: Isn't it weird how she snores arpeggios?
At that age I lived at a house with train tracks in the back.-Sounds different from what your use to, regardless of their tone and timbre make for uncomfortable surroundings.
What could happen with Marigold as a chaperone (note the sparkles-she is keeping watch even while asleep). Remember your unicorn lore. It is nice that mom is cognizant and understanding of the unique bond Phoebe and Max have.
We livesd a mile or so from the switching yard. I remember the sound of the steam engines when they lost traction. Chug…. chug…chug…chugchugchugchug. Then a repeat.
In Ireland and the UK it is illegal for children of the opposite sex to share a room if they’re over 10 years old even if they are brother and sister. It is considered overcrowding but same sex children can share until they’re 20. It doesn’t make sense as a boy and girl will take much the same room.
In the early 1980s I used to live about 30 yards from a railway line in Kent. Occasionally this extraordinary Thing would come past in the middle of the night. It was a short thick self-powered engine which had lamps like giant insect-eyes and bristled with mechanical limbs and claws which jerked up and down, plucking weeds from the banks on either side, all the while making a thunderous banging and clanking and moving at about two miles an hour.

Yes Phoebe, her snoring arpeggios is the weird part here.

could snoring in arpeggios be soothing rather than disturbing?

The probability of Max living outside the train horn’s audible range is, possible.

Well, a snoring like that is certainly something weird. I doubt you’ll find it somewhere else, unless there are other people with unicorns.

At that age, I couldn’t have imagined sleeping on the floor next to a girl. Is this a thing now? My grandkids haven’t had sleepovers like this.

I never had a sleepover, but it’s my understanding that you don’t usually sleep during a sleepover.

It must be remembered that Marigold is still comparatively young: a mature Unicorn can snore in full counterpoint.
(In fact, Bittersweet Melodious Slumber’s “Fugue in E flat Major” is considered the benchmark for virtuoso snoring). 7@=Q
