Somehow, in my naivete, I didn’t recall it always being this way. Then I started remembering incidents throughout the years and realizing that maybe I was selectively forgetting the difficult times. Different, but difficult anyway.
Term limits, line item veto, and accountability would make a huge difference, but alas, those things will never happen because they are not profitable for the politicians, who would have to vote and accept the bit and bridle.
The big problem is I can’t find any fault with the logic of the definition.I remember the Johnson-Goldwater Presidential campaign in 1964. There was an iconic anti-Goldwater TV ad (notice how the ads are so often “anti” and so rarely “for”) with a small girl playing with a daisy and a hydrogen bomb explosion.
I’ve seen a politician run with the promise of cutting spending and a balanced state budget…then when he made cuts and tried to balance the budget, people threw a fit when their program felt the pinch. Yeah, politics are for the ones with the deepest pockets but sometimes we “joes” don’t make it any easier/
Amazingly good cartoon.“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary.” (Mencken)

Yes, we’ve come a long way (down) since FDR told us that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

we’ve become a country of massive debt and zero productivity, the exact opposite of what our founding fathers believed in.
