It’s as though GoComics has taken us back to the early days of the internet when our capabilities were limited! Soldier on, GoComics, take us back to the Arapanet days! We enjoy living in the past!
Dick seems to have a problem with others making their own decisions. In fairness wouldn’t it be Flintstone’s right to support Moby’s bill if he wanted to?
Day 2: Still righteously indignant. Apprehensive that at some point will hit the “Star Trek: The Cage” wall, as humans can only stay so angry for so long. Most humans, at least.
Remember when Canada’s Defense Minister was featured on the Dick Tracy Hall of Fame? Minister Harjit Sajjan was presented an original of that Sunday strip signed by Joe Staton on This Hour has 22 Minutes, a Canadian news comedy TV show tonight (Sajjan also jumped out an airplane with his “superhero” troops in that segment) http://www.gocomics.com/dicktracy/2016/02/14.

What happened Anyface? You have taken on the appearance of a famous detective now. Spooky! Actually, I enjoyed the previous avatar. It was a bright ray of light to guide us through this difficult period. I vote bring back the lighted AnyFace!
“Day two of captivity, im hearing some ruckus from down the hall, not too clearly tho, every few minutes theres a small uprising that’s almost instantly quelled. there are others here, if only I could contact them somehow. the guards leave food every few hours, enough to sustain but not enough to quench the hunger, im certain they want to keep us weak, to silence us, to break our spirits. it wont work, our voices will be heard, I must rest now and conserve energy, more details tomorrow.”
Not easy to focus on the strip with all this nonsense going on but if anyone’s interested Tracy’s reflection in the mirror is poorly drawn based on the height of his trench coat collar.
My Pro status expires at the end of the month. I don’t post much but dislike the limits placed on my fellow posters. I enjoy the comments almost as much as the comics themselves. Count me as non-renewal.
It still is irritating me that we don’t know what the bill even is. Is it something as dramatic as banishment from earth? or is it something simpler such as preventing Mysta Chimera and Honeymoon from being US citizens?
Yes, John, keep providing the URL to your site so we can see the original that inspires the raison d’être for Last Kiss. Even on my tablet it’s not difficult copying the address to a new browser tab. Thanks!
I’ve only just learned of the GoComics decision, and looked back on the past week; some of the poems and pictures appear to be back.
Maybe they’ve realized that, if long posts and pictures are what it takes to ‘get the audience into the seats’ so they can bombard us with ads, then maybe they should allow it.
Therefore, it makes sense to ENCOURAGE readers to post thoughts, memories of past strips, etc., and post artwork including past panels and maybe even fan art.
(For example, on the Dick Tracy page, some readers post past strips that give the backstory of characters in the current story, bringing new readers up to speed. This encourages new readers.)
The more involvement you have from readers, the more opportunities your advertisers have to reach them.
And by slapping on your limits, you have offended many of your most loyal readers. And that makes it less likely they will be open to your advertisers’ products.
Everyone needs to keep sending messages to the GoComics moderators about these new posting limitations. I know a lot of us (myself included) have already done so.
I’m sure the moderators are counting on an initial flurry of angry messages that will taper off in a few days. We need to maintain a consistent level of complaints until this situation is rectified.
What I find exceedingly aggravating is that web sites in general are begging (or strong-arming readers) to allow ads. But yet they’re doing nothing to block the two main reasons why I block ads; malware (although that won’t affect me, on a linux machine) and dynamic ads. If they wish people to stop ad blocking then fix the problem, not the symptoms.
Also stop using low-contrast fonts for everything but what it was originally designed for; a sort of ‘small print.’ Us more mature readers have problems with that low-contrast print, instead of the pure black (or #000000) as we use to use.
Posters who post multiple posts are sometimes called Flood Spammers. To combat this boards can institute programs that require a time limit between posts. No indication that GoAwayComics has resorted to this but also no indication that they haven’t.
—-Today GoComics banned Gweedo and drove out Pequod, two of our most popular commenters.I am both humbled and flattered by your praise, bob ! (Great big smiley goes here)

One can read Dick Tracy at Comics Kingdom (in color), accessible in several newspaper websites, or at the Houston Chronicle (black and white). The former allows comments. Other comics can also be read, and commented on, at Arcamax. So, alternatives exist.
Meanwhile, today’s strip reads, IMO, as though Coffee is dead fish dead. I hope I am wrong, but who knows (at least until tomorrow)?
A friend had a vicious man as a manager would had side dealings with a tools supplier and would damage tool bits in the CNC machine by running feeds and speeds beyond best limits. Also sabotaged a job by holding back production to cause late deliveries. His plan; to convince the customer to send that job to his soon to be new employer.
You can add another name to the list of people who won’t be renewing their PRO membership when it expires. Unfortunately that’s not until February, though.
I’m leaving the occasional mis-formatted, partial posts above as is, partly due to laziness, also to underscore what a horrific mess the new limitations create.
As if discussion and civil discourse weren’t difficult enough in this world where people shout over everyone else, GoComics had to go and render it ‘Dang Near Impossible.’
I would like to hear Mike and some of the other creators weigh in on the commenting changes. I know Brooke McEldowney had enough pull to restrict comments on Pigborn and Chickweed Lane before this new policy.
One thing: The comment counts will go up because it takes several comments to get your thought out. It falsely makes the pages look more popular than they really are. Could this be a move by middle managers to make themselves look better?
Dilbert.com is also owned by Universal UClick. They use Discus as a chat board. Why doesn’t GoComics use the same on GoComics rather than impose these restrictions if they are so worried. Why are they more restrictive here than there?
Point being, the NEGATIVE NANCY’s and THE TROLLS can’t move PAST the comments or the photos. Instead, they feel it is their duty to flag everyone who posts photos, comments on things beside the strip itself, etc. I think that is the SPAM the “goatcomics” (to quote Eldo, LOL) is referring to. I have made a lot of friends here over the years because of the comment sections on various strips, HECK, GWEEDO was one of the first folks I spoke to

I sent the following to GoComics:
Your decision to limit readers on comment length and content is very bad business.
We, your readers, are the product you are selling to the advertisers.
The more readers post, the longer readers stay on the page. The longer we stay on the page, the greater likelihood we will read their ads.
more
Can't Sleep about 8 years ago
Therefore, it makes sense to ENCOURAGE readers to post thoughts, memories of past strips, etc., and post artwork including past panels and maybe even fan art.

I haven’t been posting much here lately, because I’ve been going through some unpleasant times, and I’d rather not share my foul moods.
But maybe my foul mood is what’s called for here by GoComics’ stupid behavior.
How smart is it to limit us to 500 characters, only to make us turn one posting into several?
Maybe they should change their name to “GoAway Comics.”
(Love the retro HTML breaks.)
