Roland: April 3, 1987-- I reach a decision. I must dislodge the recollections buried deep within the president's subconscious. Fashioning a crude incendiary device from a brandy bottle, I let fly. Aide: A rush of memory, sir? About what? Reagan: I forget.

What did the President forget, and when did he forget it?

The story lacks context if one hasn’t seen the original “In Search of Reagan’s Brain” arc. Of course the younger generation has little knowledge of the relevant issue, or that Hedley had a job before Fox.
Given his history, it makes sense that Hedley was attracted to relatively conservative broadcasting not out of ideology but just because it was the latest fad. I’m really dating myself with this reference, but he’s the “Thoroughly Modern Millie” of journalism.

Reagan’s boom was so long-lasting because it paced itself, and only showed up during Democratic administrations, taking well-deserved rests whenever a Republican was in the office.

Byrd is the one sort of racist the GOP won’t ever embrace: an ex-racist.
