I have played with people like Nate before and I have always deliberately targeted them for extra reasons for them to whine. In a game of Monopoly, once the last property was sold, I realized I had nothing that would win so I sold it all to the guy I knew could beat the whiner for $1. Soon I was out of the game and the whiner had no chance at becoming the winner.
‘Rewarding’ his whining with opposition reduced his whining.

I remember a Monopoly game in junior high where I held off three other players for several days. I used a Matchbox Rolls-Royce as my token. We had to hand print thousand dollar bills to keep the smaller bills in circulation.
