#1: Great Art on Pouch! #2: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Gweedo! I always appreciate your comments & humor! I hope your day will be a happy one. You certainly deserve it for what you give us here!
If the bidders are required to pay a bidding fee, that means each bidder has to pay $250,000 to enter the auction. The money is probably going to be deposited at a bank and it has to be transported by an armored car. Kitchen probably wants the schedule of pick up and the route the armored car will take from Siam to the bank. A hijack/robbery is in Kitchen’s immediate future.
Oh and by the way, word of advice for the rarely seen Bonnie Braids (is it just ME or did she look a little bit like Pouch a few days ago?) DON’T pursue The Spirit… inter-company romances NEVER work out!
Pouch was introduced in 1971 and remains a good recurring character. Initially, the lining of his pouch was used to conceal stolen diamonds. Lizz went undercover as bait for the diamond thieves. She looked marvelous. Concerns for her safety were muted when she displayed her physical prowess. Patton received a first hand lesson in Lizz’s skills, rendering his objections moot. Today, we again see the two-panel format put to good use.
Well, this doesn’t happen often, but I sort of called this yesterday. The question of why the number of balloons on the tank and in Pouch’s hand changed from panel to panel: that was not a mistake, neither was it an artist’s joke – it now appears that Joe specifically drew those panels on account of what we learn today – Pouch did have some sort of contraband, or at least something illegal and of value, in one of those balloons. He saw Kitchen arriving, and he made sure to have the “hot” balloon in his hand, ready for the transaction. It is very cool when comic strip art is not just incidental to the story, but is an actual part of the story!
Yo! Gweedo, I hope it’s been a good birthday for you!
Pouch makes a good living “selling balloons,” he says. That would be balloons with “party favors” inside. Some day, Tracy is going to bust his balloon, and the truth will out! Pouch treads a fine line as a police informant while still partaking of the Weed of Crime.
What importance Kitchen’s role has in this rich tale remains to be seen; but he doesn’t look like a main character to me (yes, looks can be deceiving)….

Hmm…I hope this links to the current story, and not a future one.

Except for the short nose and wrinkles, Pouch has a Jimmy Durante face.

I just picture some day some one performing an LRK on poor hard working Pouch.
Even today $1.25 million is a nice bit of money.

I think $1.25M is very, very cheap for the formula of immortality.

An unusually specific amount.

Part of a plan which entails “MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE” levels of complexity …?

Wasn’t Kitchen supposed to be in jail with Brush? I’m so confused!
