I think it’s a matter of whether you’re grandparents on the mom’s or the dad’s side. My anecdotal observations seem to show the grandparents on the mom’s side usually get first choice of what they want to be called … at least that was the case for us. (BTW we’re the grandparents on our son’s, i.e., the dad’s side. We got second choice on names. But that’s OK …)

My wife insisted on first dibs on grandma.. the others were on their own as to what they wished to be called.

It is a pleasant luxury to have two sets of grandparents … I enjoyed mine very much.
