My stupid semi-truck just throws a code, and coasts to the shoulder, “clutch sensor not responding”. The Auto-shift manual pops out of gear and I wait for a tow truck. I wish it fixed itself. No, just a wiring harness rubbing threw and wiring exposed.
Until they were bought out and discontinued, we always drove AMC cars. They didn’t fix themselves, but they were so uncomplicated it was nearly that easy. They ran for a week on empty and got good mileage, too boot. My mum had a Hornet that she gave to me, and I passed it down to our oldest daughter. How many other cars last for three generations?
I don’t think Charlene needs to worry, it’s going to be decades before autonomous cars replace the current version, if that ever even happens. It’s simply impossible to program a car to react to every single unexpected thing that might happen when you’re driving so it can respond. You’ll always need a human hand on the wheel.
Charlene has little to worry about. Her knowledge will always be very useful and profitable. The way people want the older “Muscle Cars” and others she can specialize. It’s where her heart AND the $$ is!
Dani, are you sure about your Hornet being an AMC, I owned both ta Hornet and a Wasp in my driving career and both were manufactured by Hudson Motor Car Corp.. The longevity record for my family goes to Studebaker 1 Lark passing through 5 family owners before the poor old girl blew a head gasket and oil seals leaked more lubricant than she sucked fuel.

That won’t happen, if it can break, it will. Now it may be that they will be cheaper to replace than fix.
