    Five months of cream cheese? I’d open the box to check anyway. If it’s moldy or in any other way past its prime, I’d throw it away.

    Too true. If it doesn’t smell or look bad, use it. I found some steaks at the bottom of my freezer that were 8 years old, but were still very tasty.

    Volunteering at a food cupboard, I often eat stale dated food that the needy won’t take. As well as bulging cans or visible mold, powdered Parmesan cheese is one item to beware of; just weeks past the Best Before has made me sick as a dog – Twice!

    I’m a bit careful about food, but I still have the jar of Vaseline they sent home with the baby gift package for my first son. He celebrated his 56th birthday last week.
