I do find it odd the butler wouldn’t collect outerwear at the front door, rather than let people hang their own garments in the library. But heck…Tracy’s still wearing his trademark hat & trenchcoat so I guess the house help’s too distraught to do his job this blustery winter morning.
First a Kellogg’s reference (Krispies), and now The Beverley Hillbillies. This is interesting since Kellogg’s was a big sponsor of TBH when it was first run:
So the fur coat (from yesterday’s strip) is not Ms. Clampett’s. We know the gray coat (the one on top) is Piston Puss’ since after hanging it up he then “joined the others”.
So far, there’s only one person who benefited from the old geezer’s death…… now, if the others were turned down prior to his death, they ALL have a motive.
I think I may know who did it, looking at the panels, it is snowing and all of the characters were taken into the library after arriving and entering together from what they have said so far.
In the first comic of the week, we see DT arrive and the shadows of the 4 guests. looking at this and the coats in the day 2 strip, the coats look like they will fit Piston and the 4th lady not introduced. Notgo adv this was a lovely winter morning, so I am going to say that based on who the character is in reference too and since Clampett advised she left hers in her car. With this process listed, I have to assume the umbrella is possibly the fourth person’s, although being a man of wealth, I am going to say that the Umbrella is the host, Krispies and umbrellas were commonly kept with the coats at the front door.
Since we do not know the last person, we have to wait for the last piece to be placed in the puzzle, but going off of what we have now, I would have to say that Clampett would be the first on the list, with Piston and Notgo being 2 and 3 respectively and the fourth being the last guest. Granted, there is the possibility that all 4 are in on it or none of them. They all said they were shown in by the Butler and found him dead which could be one of the following to did it:
1) The Butler did it, as we do not know his backstory2) Natural causes, how old was he and from the bust need to assume at least 40s or 50s, unless that is a family member.3) Clampett than Piston than Notgo followed by the last lady.
I could be wrong, but I want to say Butler and/or Clampett but that is the info we have been provided so far.
Ms. Clampett (formerly, and technically still, Mrs. Krispies) may not be cold physically, but she certainly is psychologically cold. Her main concern is the money she expects to inherit. So, yeah, she too has a motive. I await tomorrow, when it is the younger woman’s turn to put her motive on view for Tracy and us. I still wonder whether Jarvis will get a turn Friday. Then, Tracy must do some rapid, sharp-eyed detecting, towards the Sunday denouement….

And the other lady must be the victim’s daughter or the maid who was put on the will just recently.

We are still not told the cause of death nor shown a clear view of the crime scene.
