1.Hey colourist! Uncle Danny has a beard and not a misshapen chin. His beard is the same colour as his head hair, not his skin.
2.In real life, the avatars for “mom and dad”, i.e., Grandpa Will and Grandma Carrie (Tom and Ruth Johnston) lived in the house next door to Lynn Johnston, so they would have to travel to and stay in the farm house in Manitoba if they all made this trip in real life. On the other hand, in the comic strip, Lynn Johnston has already established that Grandpa Will and Grandma Carrie live a short distance from Aunt Bev and Uncle Danny’s farm. I would think if there was a problem with sleeping space, they could just stay at their own place. I suspect their house is where Aunt Bev and Uncle Danny are spending the night.
3.I don’t get the part about learning to sleep standing up if you are farmer. Is he saying farmers watch horses to see how they do it?
Michael sleeping in the hall? Are you kidding? He’ll be tripped over by people trying to get tot he bathroom! (In the condominium of my brother’s parents-in-law [where he and his wife live], there are two downstairs closets with beds in one of which I slept and I felt like Harry Potter in the Dursleys’ house whereas the other has bunkbeds.)
When I was younger, we had to stay with my grandma a few times. Sometimes she would have room, but other times she did not, but we always worked around it. It wasn’t really healthy, but it was doable.
I really enjoyed including my sister- and brother-in-law in the strip. They were naturally funny and their farm provided a new element to the storyline. When we were together, ideas just tumbled into my head.
It would be mighty cold sleeping in the barn – unheated – in Western Canada – at Christmas time. Probably well below freezing – possibly well below 0 F.
But it still might be better than sleeping in the hallway!
I’ve slept in my Ford Explorer in cold conditions. Not too bad. A closed cell sleeping pad and plenty of blankets and a real pillow and privacy. The only problem is getting out to visit the bath room.

Sleeping in the hall sure is going to brighten Michael’s mood a lot! (not a chance!)

Considering old this strip probably is, is the colorist gonna care about comments?

A farmhouse with only two bedrooms? Never seen one of those…

On the farm sleeping and relaxing are manifestly not priorities.

You all remember “Kids in the Hall”, right?

I assume they could sleep in the barn, if they need to.

Too much family, not enough house.

The hall? No wonder the kid has an attitude about this visit.
