    That happened with my old bike. The thief also needed a dentist, on account of the fact his teeth were softer than the road.

    Nowadays the thief would sue Sluggo, and probably win. Most liability lawyers would quickly determine that Sluggo didn’t have any assets and probably decline the case. But that likely wouldn’t stop a “serial plaintiff” from filing anyway.
