Homework is a dirty trick to further widen the gap between society’s favored children and its less-privileged ones. It’s also an appalling idea even apart from that. What adult employee would stand still for the boss handing her or him an extra 3-4 hours of work to take home at the end of a full work day? And adults don’t need play time anywhere NEARLY as much as kids do.
That’s the thing about learning: It’s really hard. It’s either hard work up front, which is cool except when you forget there’s a payoff, which is easier to forget the harder the studying is. But sometimes it’s hard on the other end. Sometimes you learn stuff you didn’t especially want to know.
Thank goodness it’s addictive, and that most people are susceptible such that they stick with it long enough for the rewards to outweigh the difficulty.
That’s what I’ve learned, anyway. I forget how hard it was.Frazz by Jef Mallett for Jan 8, 2018 | GoComics.com
I remember having a discussion with the boy’s vice principal at my high school in which he told me “kids need to have education jammed down their throats, it’s the only way they learn”. I wonder if they still have corporal punishment in that school district.

Learning self awareness, and then learning how to motivate oneself to work, are probably far more important than whatever the homework was on anyway.
