No you don’t. It’s Washington and Lincoln. They used to be celebrated separately, but then combined due to so many holidays in a short period of the year.
……………………. sigh! ………………………. . . . Oh, sorry… just reminiscing back a couple years, when we had an actual president… character… integrity… intelligence… compassion… morals… dignity………………… I miss that.
Many schools don’t get Monday off. And it’s officially by law called Washington’s Birthday, which is why it is in February. Although it is popularly called “Presidents Day,” it was originally designed to celebrate George Washington only and give federal employees a three-day weekend.
I wonder if Caulfield knows, I wonder if Mr. Burke knows, I wonder if Frazz knows, like I would have known if I’d checked, that a lot of school districts do indeed have Monday off. It’s just not because of Presidents’ Day. It’s about time for Winter Break.
For a guy who draws a comic strip about a school, I can be pretty clueless about the way schools go about their business sometimes, and I still wonder when Winter Break became a thing. Maybe it’s always been a thing, just not in the school district where I grew up. That would make sense. Just like I never schedule a rest day.
Coaches, trainers and experts tell me firmly: Always schedule a rest day into your weekly plan. And I hardly ever do, hardly ever have. Because my experience has been that life is as likely as not to hand me a rest day before my planned one, so I just take it as it comes. “Rest day” sounds like the opposite of “stress,” so less plan sounds like the best plan. Maybe my little school district in the snow belt knew that blizzards were going to get school canceled ahead of any planned Winter Break the same way.
I doubt it, honestly. Just like I doubt I’ve distracted any of you from the obvious fact that I failed to do my homework when I wrote this week’s strips. And that’s the kind of homework fail where even a snow day won’t get you off the hook.

I guess because President’s Day (Monday) IS a day off, I’m not getting this strip.
